The importance of basic physics

This semester I am teaching basic physics to engineering students and I often have to remind them the importance of learning physics. And also that all I teach really applies to the real life and happens all the time. For those who don't believe in the amazing effects produced by torque there is a surprising example in a sequence of photos that I found at Illuminating Science . When will they learn?

Cheers for the link! I'll look forward to reading more of your posts - thanks for the tip off about Alain Connes book online (not that many people can actually be said to "like" non commutative geometry!

Dear Professor,

The last photo is not true... It is an assembly of the fifth one. Anyway, it is very funny.
